Barriers to Aging in Place

by Louis on March 30, 2011

From AiP2.0 I learned about two types of actionable barriers to Aging in Place.

Barrier 1.

Personal Action. Though people say they want to Age in Place they don’t prepare.
a. People don’t know they should do something.
b. People don’t know what to do.
c. People don’t do much planning, due to inertia or human nature. This is true in health decisions, financial planning, etc. Some people plan their vacations. About half plan weddings (the other half just show up).

Barrier 2.

There is no comprehensive, coordinated, DYNAMIC support SYSTEM.

I am tuning, with much good and appreciated help, ideas for the Aging in Place Institute, whose role will be responding to, eliminating, these barriers.
